My work
My background in performing arts is mainly related to dance and movement training: contemporary dance, release technique, authentic movement, contact improvisation. I used to collaborate in my work as a dancer with musicians on stage, visual artists, in real time composition performances, I focused these last years mainly in music dance inmporvisation performances, I also like to work in projects for children, since I find they are the most honest and perfect audience. I studied some theatre in Spain in University where I got my postgraduate in performing arts, there I studied different techniques and approaches to theatre like Stanislavsky method, Lecoq, Grotowski etc. I also like to work with music, I used to play guitar and sing in a band, and I always search for a way to integrate music in my work in theatre.
This background influences my work because I like to work very physical, from body impulses, these impulses can be triggered by music, sound, lights, composition in space, other bodies etc. I lie to work from my senses, how does the body react to an environment, how does a body transform the space. I work from theatrical images and making them be alive. Im not working so strongly from a concept or a philosophical idea, I lie to focus in the visual aspect of a performance, how do images, actions, sounds communicate to an audience directly to their body. Im not so interested in the analytical perspective from the audience, but in the physical reaction in the spectator.
The reality of theatre is another reality. It can be said it’s the reality of life, which is transformed, distorted, exaggerated due to artistic vocabulary. For me it is even more real than life itself, because it engages us in all our being. Not in many circumstances in life I can find people fully involved and aware of their existence, sometimes we stay half way, lazyness, discomfort, ignorance, stress, rushing of time. Sometimes we forget to fully experience life, we are lost around it.
